Lord of Life Lutheran Church is: a member congregation of Lutheran Church--Canada. (a sister synod of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod) a communion of saints who gather weekly around Word and Sacrament for the building and strenthening of our faith. (see our Services page for worship times) a congregation which accepts the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God. a church which subscribes to the Lutheran Confessions (as contained in the Book of Concord of 1580) because they are a true exposition of the Word of God. z We are small "c" catholic. The word "catholic' literally means "universal." As a confessional Lutheran Church we follow in the traditions and teachings of the universal Christian Church. x We are small "o" orthodox. The word "orthodox" means "conventional" or "standard." As a confessional Lutheran Church we maintain the standard, conventional teachings of the Christian Church which have been handed down from Christ Himself and from the apostles, evangelists, and church fathers. c We are "Evangelical." The "evangel" is the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Therefore we believe, teach and confess the life, death, and resurrecton of our Lord and Saviour for the forgiveness of sins and the certain promise of eternal life in Him.
Our Pastor Pastor Gordon Heselton was called to serve Lord of Life Lutheran Church in the summer of 2002 and he was installed as pastor in October of the same year. He received his seminary training at Concordia Lutheran Seminary--Edmonton from 1988 to 1992, graduating with a Master of Divinity degree. He served two Lutheran Church--Canada parishes in Alberta (Christ and Redeemer Lutheran Churches, near Barrhead and Foothills Lutheran Mission, Calgary) before returning to his native B.C. Pastor Heselton has taken training in the Prepare/Enrich 2000 (R) program and is certified to adminster both the pre-marriage (Prepare) and marriage strengthening (Enrich) surveys. He also has participated in the Peacemaker Ministries (R) Reconciler Training and Practicum.
