At Lord of Life Lutheran, the proclamation of the Word of God and the administration of the Sacraments are at the heart of the purpose of our Church. Therefore we offer a number of Bible Studies for members and anyone else interested in studying the Holy Scriptures. Currently we are offering the follwoing studies:
Malachi -- This Bible Study begins at 9:35 a.m. Sunday morning before worship and is led by our pastor. An examination of the text and it's implication for our daily walk as Christians is shared by participants. On some Sundays we can only cover a few verses due to the lively discussion and insights! Bibles are provided.
Tuesday Morning Study -- "To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven." Every Tuesday morning there is a time under heaven (at 9:35 a.m.) for a Bible Study over a cup of coffee. (The coffee is optional!)
Rayleigh Bible Study -- This home Bible Study is held Monday evening in the community of Rayleigh just north of Kamloops on Highway 5.
North Shore Bible Study -- This home Bible Study is held Thursday evening in the homes of members in Brocklehurst and Westsyde. Currently we are studying the Book of Habakkuk.
Other Studies available: (If you want to start a Bible Study group in the Kamloops area and would like to look at the following topics, please call pastor Heselton for information.)
Jesus, Legend or Lord? -- The video based study is the work of renowned church historian, Dr. Paul Meier. Dr. Meier examines historical evidence of Jesus of Nazareth found in archaeology and literature outside the pages of Holy Scripture and gives an interesting perspective on His ministry in Palestine almost two millenia ago.
The Jesus I Never Knew -- The basis of the study is the book of the same title by Philip Yancey. Besides learning about who Jesus was and is, myths about Jesus are dispelled and participants are challenged to be more Christlike in their daily walk of faith.
The Gospel of St. John -- This study examines the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the perspective of His disciple John. Insights into the brilliant literary style and techniques of St. John along with his well developed theological view of the person and teaching of Jesus will encourage and strengthen the faith of participants.
The Revelation of St. John -- No other book of the New Testament provokes as much comment and misinformation as does the Apocalypse! This study looks at the underlying Gospel message of encouragement found within its pages for the Christians of the late first century, a message that is still relevant for Christians today.
The Epistle of St. James -- This Bible Study looks at the letter of encouragement that James, brother of Jesus and bishop of the Church in Jerusalem in the middle of the first century, wrote to Jewish Christians who had been scattered over Judea and Samaria after the first Jerusalem persecution. James is sometimes described as the New Testament Book of Proverbs for its collection of wisdom for Christian living even in the face of advesity and persecution.
Alpha and Omega -- The Revelation of St. John reveals Jesus as the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet (the language in which the New Testament was originally written) and Omega is the last. This course, utilizing Martin Luther's Small Catechism, is designed to look at the basic teachings of the Christian faith as they are revealed in Holy Scripture. Topics covered include: the Bible as God's Word; Law and Gospel; the Ten Commandments; The Apostles' Creed--Creation, Who is Jesus Christ and Why did He Die, the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, Heaven and Hell, the End of Time; the Lord's Prayer; Confession, Absolution (forgiveness) and the Church; the Sacrament of Holy Baptism; and last but not least, the Sacrament of holy Communion.
